Assessing Fibromyalgia With Quantitative Electroencephalography (QEEG)
نویسنده
چکیده
114 Recent research into fibromyalgia has suggested dysfunction in the central nervous system (CNS) as a possible contributor to this chronic pain condition. If changes in the CNS are involved in fibromyalgia, then dysfunctional brain activity should be present. This article specifically focuses on the brain wave activity in a group of fibromyalgia sufferers. In this study, 40 fibromyalgia sufferers underwent quantitative electroencephalography (QEEG), and these data were analyzed for significant deviations as compared to nonfibromyalgia individuals. The results suggest that more research is needed to investigate the somewhat increased beta activity and decreased alpha activity in the eyes open condition.

The Effect of Quantitative Electroencephalography-Based Neurofeedback Therapy on Anxiety, Depression, and Emotion Regulation in People with Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Introduction: Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is one of the most common anxiety disorders that has significant adverse effects on social functioning, occupational/academic performance, and daily living. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of Quantitative Electroencephalography (QEEG)-based Neurofeedback (NFB) therapy on anxiety, depression, and emotion regulation of people with GAD. Met...
متن کاملVALIDITY AND RELIABILITY OF QUANTITATIVE ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAPHY (qEEG)
Reliability and validity are statistical concepts that are reviewed and then applied to the field of quantitative electroencephalography or qEEG. The review of the scientific literature demonstrated high levels of split-half and test re-test reliability of qEEG and convincing content and predictive validity as well as other forms of validity. qEEG is distinguished from nonquantitative EEG (“Eye...
متن کاملElectroencephalography and event-related potentials as biomarkers of mild cognitive impairment and mild Alzheimer's disease.
BACKGROUND Successful early detection of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's disease demands the identification of biomarkers capable of distinguishing individuals with prodromal or early cognitive impairment from healthy aging adults. Many laboratories are engaged in the discovery and validation of a wide array of potential genetic, proteomic, cognitive, and other types of biomarke...
متن کاملAssessing attention deficit hyperactivity disorder via quantitative electroencephalography: an initial validation study.
Spectral analysis of the electrophysiological output at a single, midline prefrontal location (the vertex) was conducted in 482 individuals, ages 6-30 years old, to test the hypothesis that cortical slowing in the prefrontal region can serve as a basis for differentiating patients with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) from nonclinical control groups. Participants were classified ...
متن کاملOn the Application of Quantitative EEG for Characterizing Autistic Brain: A Systematic Review
Autism-Spectrum Disorders (ASD) are thought to be associated with abnormalities in neural connectivity at both the global and local levels. Quantitative electroencephalography (QEEG) is a non-invasive technique that allows a highly precise measurement of brain function and connectivity. This review encompasses the key findings of QEEG application in subjects with ASD, in order to assess the rel...
